Evoking Confidence: Answering Your EV Questions

Interested in driving electric but have questions? Colorado’s ReCharge Coaches are here to help!

How do I find EV chargers?

With over 5,400 charging ports in Colorado, a charger is always nearby. And some newer EVs can even guide you to the nearest public charging station - just punch in your destination, and your EV will do the rest!

How does the cost of an EV compare to a gas-powered vehicle?

The average cost of a new vehicle is currently $48,000 but there are over 30 EVs priced under $45,000 – and that’s before applying federal and state tax credits.

How much can I save on maintenance?

As an EV owner, you could save up to $8,000 in maintenance fees over the lifespan of your vehicle – which makes perfect sense considering you’ll no longer have to deal with oil changes, spark plugs and more!

Can I still take road trips in an electric vehicle?

With newer EVs getting between 250 to 300 miles on a single charge and with over 1,000 DC fast charging ports across Colorado, there’s never been a better time to get out and explore the state via EV!

How does extreme weather affect EV range?

While extreme weather can reduce the range of an EV by up to 20-30%, with most EVs getting 250-300+ miles on a full charge, your daily commute should still be smooth sailing.

How does public EV charging work?

Public charging is a breeze! You’ll either pay by credit card or via the designated charging provider’s app and from there, just open your vehicle’s charging port, grab the charger, and plug it in.

What EV incentives are available?

In 2024, eligible Coloradan buyers can get a $5,000 state tax credit, in addition to the $7,500 federal tax credit. And if your vehicle costs less than $35,000, you can get another $2,500 in savings!

How do you charge an EV when you live in an apartment?

Don’t let living in an apartment be a barrier to EV ownership! Many apartment complexes throughout Colorado now offer EV charging to residents! Plus, Colorado has 5,400+ public charging stations available to use as well!

How long does it take to charge an EV?

When charging your EV using a standard electrical outlet, your vehicle will add three to five miles of charge per hour. Meanwhile, Level 2 charging will add up to 45 miles of charge per hour and fast charging can recharge most of your EV’s battery in as little as 20 minutes.

Are EVs actually sustainable?

Producing zero tailpipe emissions, fully electric vehicles are the cleanest cars on the road. And compared to a gasoline car, they produce approximately 60% less greenhouse gas emissions over the vehicle's entire lifespan.

Are there EVs with AWD, cargo space, towing capacity and ground clearance?

From sports cars to pick-up trucks, EVs come in all shapes and sizes, and have a range of features - including all-wheel drive. And today’s electric SUVs and trucks can even tow up to a whopping 11,000 pounds!
